Lonnie, from Far North Bushcraft And Survival, shows how to tap a birch tree using rudimentary tools. Birch sap can be made into syrup, or you can drink it straight. It is quite tasty.

    Dowels (stick with hole drilled in middle) at Walmart and art supplies stores. I remember seeing metal oil can spout with a sharp V shape end. After boring a hole maybe these will work. Need to be able to identify which trees. I know pine for sure. Oak I think, maple not sure. Just saw my first pecan trees last year. Never really looked.
