‘Modest Proposal’ Eviscerates Founding Intent on Second Amendment

Surrender of fundamental rights articulated in the Constitution to those who demand a monopoly of violence is a reasonable compromise, say the Opposite Day “progressives.”

“There is a reasonable and constitutional compromise that can be made regarding the Second Amendment,” the CNN summary for its “A Modest Proposal on Guns” guest editorial by Jeffrey Sachs claims. That alone should be enough to put gun owners on their guard—first because, as the tagline says, “This is CNN,” and we know what that means. For them to present themselves as arbiters of “reasonable and constitutional” opinions on gun owner rights smells like a set-up to a swindle. When they add the word “compromise,” you know what they’re pushing (commentary opinion disclaimers notwithstanding) is more infringements, not fewer.

The title of the piece ought to give it away. “A Modest Proposal” was an Eighteenth Century satire written by Jonathan Swift in which he proposed the impoverished Irish could improve their economic lot by selling their children to be slaughtered and eaten by the rich. At least in Swift’s case, he was mocking the heartlessness of the oppressive establishment elites of his time.

In Sachs’ case, he is the establishment. He’s a professor and director of the Center for Sustainable Development at Columbia University who calls the U.S. “a rogue nation.” He’s a leading “warmist” who advocated that Texas Gov. Gregg Abbott should resign after Hurricane Harvey because he supports his state’s oil interests against (unconstitutional federal) regulation and opposed the Paris Climate Agreement for globalist wealth redistribution. And speaking of Swift and children perceived as liabilities, it’s telling that Sachs, along with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon, were hosted at the Vatican to push the benefits of a worldwide tax-subsidized “right” to abortion along with “population control.”

“Reasonable compromise” on the right of the people to keep and bear arms can be most helpful with that, as multiple Twentieth Century genocides have proven.

And the good professor’s bright idea this time around?

“Focus the protection of the Second Amendment on keeping nonmilitary arms at home for self-defense, while putting an escalating standard of protection on other kinds of arms and uses …  If individuals want to own semi-automatic assault weapons, either as collectors or for practice shooting, then enforce a provision that such weapons can only be kept at legally registered shooting ranges or other registered depositories, and cannot be removed from the designated premises. Similarly, if individuals want to use unusual high-powered weapons for hunting, and if such weapons are deemed to be acceptable for hunting purposes, then require that the hunters collect their weapons from a registered hunting depot and redeposit them after hunting, with the guns and ammunition properly accounted for.”

There’s more, but you get the picture. He has completely eviscerated Founding intent and “shall not be infringed,” and reduced gun ownership to highly-regulated personal protection and “sporting purposes,” all of which are one majority rule vote away from the ultimate goal at the bottom of Nancy Pelosi’s “slippery slope.”

Cherry-picking quotes from Antonin Scalia in his Heller opinion only serves to highlight the dishonesty in Sachs’ argument. And he conveniently avoids “common use” language employed in the Heller and earlier Miller decision, misdirecting instead by focusing on “prohibiting the carrying of dangerous and unusual weapons.”

In Miller, the court had no evidence possession of a short-barrel shotgun had “some reasonable relationship to the preservation or efficiency of a well regulated militia [or] that this weapon is any part of the ordinary military equipment, or that its use could contribute to the common defense.”

That’s the key point being ducked. The function of the militia, defined as “all males physically capable of acting in concert for the common defense [and] bearing arms supplied by themselves and of the kind in common use at the time,” was—and is—to field citizen soldiers. And these citizens bore arms that were suitable for that purpose, “ordinary military equipment” intended to be taken into “common defense” battles. The militia assembled with the intent to match and best a professional military threat.

And here’s the kicker: Say for argument’s sake we give Sachs what he wants. Will it all be better now?

“Would this compromise end gun deaths?” he asks. “Of course not, since so many gun deaths occur at home among family and friends. And criminals would still evade the law, no doubt…”

No doubt. As would enemies foreign and domestic. So much for Sachs’ “modest proposal.”

The appropriate answer is “No, your move.” Especially in light of comments reflecting an attitude that is hardly isolated and is being expressed with increasing frequency by violence-minded domestic Marxists…

“It does not matter, we will take all your guns away in 2018,” one CNN fanboy threatens. “It will be fun prying it out of your cold dead fingers.”

My shorter answer to CNN and to Sachs is two words, but this is not the appropriate venue to repeat it.

The 2nd Amendment basically identifies your right to keep and bear arms. You exercising it freely in spite of the consequences is what will keep us free.

“That they are endowed with certain unalienable rights.” – Declaration of Independence
The 2nd Amendment is there to make sure that the government could never disarm the militia, or as George Mason asked and answered, “It is the whole people”.
Start fighting the fight based on the actual law, and you’ll see a real change in everything.

“The 2nd Amendment basically identifies your right to keep and bear arms.”

Actually it is a “forbidden” to be messed with by anyone who serves within our governments, that it is a felony for them to do so, to those who serve within our governments at all levels.

Read the Preamble to the Bill of Rights: “Congress of the United States begun and held at the City of New York, on Wednesday the Fourth of March, one thousand seven hundred and eighty nine.

THE Conventions of a number of the States having at the time of their adopting the Constitution, expressed a desire, in order to prevent misconstruction or abuse of its powers, that further declaratory and restrictive clauses should be added: And as extending the ground of public confidence in the Government, will best insure the beneficent ends of its institution.”

Notice that it says “in order to prevent misconstruction or abuse of its powers”. Remember that the Oath lists Domestic Enemies, along with foreign enemies, from which the US Constitution is to be defended from.

Knowing that the US Constitution defines our governments; divides in writing the different authorities/powers DELEGATED to the different branches and named offices within a branch – not to any person, entity, group, agency, etc; is the SUPREME LAW of this land that all legislation is required to be in “Pursuance thereof” the US Constitution in order for it to be binding on the people; HIGHLY IMPORTANT is that it is also the SUPREME contract that ALL who serves within our governments – state and federal – are under, is to be the FIRST contract followed before any other, bound by Oath to support and defend before orders of superiors and before the duties of the position occupied. Knowing that all except the person who TEMPORARILY occupies the Office of the US President (held to a higher standard to Preserve, Protect, and Defend the US Constitution) is required to “Support and Defend” the US Constitution it is critical we hold accountable those who break the contract they serve under, the Oath they are bound by, the duties which are assigned to them – all in writing. This is abuse of their powers. This is usuarpation. He is suggesting another crimes be committed by those that serve within our governments against the people, against our legitimate government.

Nothing new here. I remember proposals such as this being made in the early 1960s. Their advocates did succeed in passing the Gun Control Act of 1968, however, as a “compromise” piece of legislation. No doubt Sachs has the same overall result in mind. The tactic is simple, but effective: Propose something at about 9 to 10 on the “gun control” wish-list; then “compromise” with something at about 3 to 4, expecting that no one will notice that the lesser of the two evils still significantly advances the “gun control” agenda, and that the NRA and like “defenders of the Second Amendment” will actually declare it a victory that they have agreed to accept the lesser evil in order to avoid the worse one.

There is no “reasonable” compromises to the word inalienable or Bill of Rights, not wants. You give up even an inch and the entire constitution is now ready to be questioned. How can you defend any of your inalienable rights outlined in the Bill of Rights without the second amendment?

Sounds more and more like the time for talking is coming to an end. I have repeatedly warned that we are rapidly approaching the time, if we have not already arrived, when we must use our Constitutionally protected arms for the exact specific purpose the founders intended when they included the 2nd Amendment in the Constitution. To arms, to arms, the “progressives” are coming, the “progressives” are coming.

The sad thing is, Rick, that it won’t be the talking heads that are advocating this that will be enforcing it, it will our local law enforcement and the BATF/DHS going door to door, that will suffer for their high-flying ideals. It’s not real to them, because it won’t be them or their children who will bleed and die to put this into effect. The law abiding people who comply, in an effort to keep the peace, will suffer as well, as they then become the victims when they can no longer protect their families, their home, against the thugs and criminals who don’t care about any laws.

I firmly believe that “assault weapons” should be in the home of at least every able-bodied man, with at least a full battle pack of 210 rounds, and any other accoutrements related to the duty of a “well regulated” soldier.
I firmly believe that the weapon should be kept in good working order, and the owner proficient in its use.
I firmly believe that the owner be prepared to deal with emergencies such as criminal acts, insurrection, and invasion.
I firmly believe that the rest of the community contribute to this compliance by providing arms to any able-bodied man not capable of purchasing his own weapon, and to the support of any emergencies that may endanger the community.
I firmly believe that “such other persons as may upon their own application be enlisted or commissioned therein in accordance with” a “well regulated”, properly prepared able-bodied man.
I firmly believe that all others should be “well regulated”, and willing to perform the tasks necessary to the support, continued health, and well being of the community.
No amendment needed. The regulations are already there.

I was only about half-way through the story when I began to laugh almost uncontrollably. My high-powered rifles kept in a shooting club or something like that? Are you kidding me? Here in Montana we ride around with a rifle in our truck just in case we spot an Antelope or an Elk and try to figure out how to obtain permission from the landowner to go after it and how to make a stalk if its on private ground. I’m not talking about shooting from the vehicle, I’m talking about spotting the animal and making a stalk, which in any case is legally required that you cannot shoot from a vehicle on a roadway unless you have a handicapped permit.

This guy making these proposals needs to come to the west and live with us for a few years and get an education rather than spinning his stupid ideas from the concrete jungle.

Out of 300 million folks in the U.S.A. Gun owners are not the majority, but fortunately we do outnumber the hoplophobes. In order to prevail in our struggle to preserve the Second Amendment we must convince the majority of Americans that the truth is on our side and we won’t do that by cursing, insulting, or threatening the anti-gun folks we encounter on social media. The Center for Disease Control released data in 2013 revealing that guns are used in self defense between 500,000 and three million times per year, usually without a shot being fired. The number of guns used in self defense dwarfs those used to take lives. Likewise studies have revealed that most gun owners are much more law abiding than the average citizen and even slightly better than police officers. None of this information is going to be put out by the mainstream media, so it is up to us to convince our friends and neighbors that guns, far from being overwhelmingly deadly and evil are a force for good in our society, and are used over fifteen times or more to save lives than they are to take them. We all have a social duty to do whatever we can to defeat the aims of criminals and killers and limiting the owning and carrying of firearms would leave hundreds of thousands of Americans defenseless. Gun control is evil and would do nothing but play right into the hands of criminals who would no longer have to worry about being shot when they rape, rob, or kill. Being pro-gun is the only sensible, decent response to the evils that threaten our society. Contrary to the hoplophobes’ claims that doing away with guns will make us safer, doing so would expose us all to greater danger. We must educate ourselves and then share the facts, in a mature, reasonable manner with as many folks as we can.

Today, tomorrow, or twenty years from now that is the way it must be. We mortals know not when we will die. We do have considerable input however as to how. I do not lust for battle, but it is a far better way to die than to be on your knees depending on the largesse of an enemy so despicable he would demand you give up your manhood to satisfy his need to control everything and everyone. Same old same ol…..All talk and no action….

Now let’s talk about false flags; 9/11, Sandhook (A Hollywood set of a closed school) and Vegas. Just to mention a few. With the exception of Sandyhook Government hits by there wet boys, assets or whatever they are called today. These government assassins would murder their own family if ordered too. Nazi Germany Hitler dressed his own form of wet-boys (gestopbo/ SS) in Polish military uniforms and murdered their own to get the German Peoples approval to invade Poland. Same same as nullification of the Second Amendment. What is happening today in USofA is the same exact government game played out in Nazi Germany.

9/11 and Vegas are an example of what government will do to get what they want. The disarmament of the American Citizenry and complete control of All. Police State mindset, removal of free speech and replaced with government controlled of what you think and speech like they have in Red China and now the UK. Death of innocents is not new to our Black ops Boys and is shrugged of as part of the game. If murdering 3000+ innocents gets the job done then so be it.

9/11 is the biggest coverup in the history of the USofA. Vegas is proving to be another coverup just as Sandyhook was a coverup (at least Sandyhook was Hollywood style fakery). Not so 9/11 or Vegas.

That man in Vegas was in the wrong place at the wrong time. They wanted to kill a nobody and use him as the one who did the deed. The one murdered dressed as average worker type but it turn out he wasn’t and screwed up the game of coverup. This man has no record of any kind. He was a honest rich business man minding his own and was murdered by a government assassin just as it was for JFK and Martin Luther King etc. What is called a scape goat.

While I am a long standing member of OathKeepers, the truth is; there is no political solution to any of our problems. Government is an archaic, barbaric concept that we no longer have a need for. We have Capitalism (which not even OathKeepers understand) which is the replacement for government. It is all about power. Capitalism returns the money and power to the people ( where it was originally in the former USA). Banking has to be free and competitive and the money has to be sound. Monopolies don’t survive in Capitalism – only with government interference in the economy do monopolies survive. Read “Economics In One Lesson” as a solid starting point. Buy George Reisman’s DVD “Capitalism” – about $50 but worth it ! We are not, in reality, political slaves, but economic. When we realize this and learn fundamental high school level economic laws/principles, we can turn the tables on them. But not before.

Oh how far our educational institutions have fallen. At the bell tower, when a deranged individual went to the top with high-powered rifles and opened fire on the crowds below…wasn’t it college professors who ran to their cars, and got their own hunting rifles out? Then they opened fire on the bell tower, keeping the deranged sicko under suppressing fire until law enforcement could arrive. UT Austin, 1966.

Our middle and high schools used to teach firearms safety and many schools had practice ranges. Now they expel elementary students for chewing their food into the vague shape of a handgun.

Nowadays, fear has taken over for reason and logic, and the progressives’ quest to divest themselves of personal responsibility. The constant screeching that our president is a tyrant, a fascist…yet they want to remove firearms from everyday people and give all the power to the government that’s run by this supposed fascist. I’m just not seeing the logic of this.

I believe the purpose of the 2nd amendment was to ensure that “we the people” would not be
defenseless should our government lose it’s mind as perhaps it may have. Unfortunately a bolt action cannot compete with the more modern weapons available so the scale has been tipped in favor of the more modern weapons. To remain competitive these weapons must be available to everyone. Fortunately everyone will not “lose it” at the same time.
