    Hello!
I’m a police officer and recently joined the Oath Keepers. However, following that, I began seeing articles comparing the Oath Keepers to Sovereign Citizens and other right-wing extremist groups. Even Copblock.org supports Oath Keepers, and that website infuriates me. I am not sure I can support anything that cop haters support. I also read the 10 orders and realized that 1) I detain and arrest people and 2) I seize property and tow vehicles (as well as conduct searches of people and property), so I have already violated a few of them just in the act of doing my job. I believe in the 2nd Amendment, as well, but there are folks who I believe should NOT own firearms, just because they can… I don’t believe the mentally ill or criminals should ever own firearms. Other than that, I swore an oath,

Please shed some light on this. Is the Oath Keepers a “militia” group, extremist group, etc etc?

    Thanks

Several local LEO organizations have been invited to the Oath Keepers summit being held this weekend in Gilbert WV. I don’t know why a cop hating organization would back OK, but if they do, they must misunderstand the OK organization and miss understand that plenty of active LEOs belong to the OK organization.

My family fully supports law enforcement and I just provided a two year membership to my father as a gift. He is pro military and pro law enforcement. My husband is retired military and pro law enforcement and he is going to join OK.
We all know there are bad apples in every agency and business and we know it is our duty to call out corruption where we find it. I also know that I tend to believe the servicemen’s or LEO’s story first, wait for the facts to come out. So, I do have a pro LE bias.
To your point of you having already broken the OK oaths – the oaths speak of warrantless search and seizers and arrests that would currently be considered unlawful (thus the arrest would not stand up) – I doubt that you any of the arrests, searches or seizers you have made are warrantless or unlawful, thus I don’t believe you have broken the oaths put forth by the organization.
My apologies that I have droned on and I certainly do not speak for the OK association as a whole, but I wanted to give a voice as someone who’s Father and Husband have/will shortly join.

Does the Oath Keepers recognize Maryland Corrections Officers as LEO, and what type of membership would a Correctional Officer be ?

      WatchDog,

If you took an Oath to the Constitution as part of becoming a Corrections Officer, then, yes, you can be a full member. If you didn’t, you can still be an Associate Member.

We talked months ago about regular meetings. I think that OK should take a more active role in the effort to save this country. I think OK could counter many of the destructive riots by extremists determined to resist desperately needed changes in our government including the proliferation of unconstitutional executive orders that will rob us of our freedoms.

I am an associate member who lives in western Maryland. My recommendation is that OK should organize 2-day? regional annual meetings with guest speakers, video presentations, membership sign-up activities, etc. Does the organization have a dues structure? If not it should have

Thank you for taking action to uphold the constitution. I hope to see more citizens waking up to the reality of the police state and joining your ranks. I am interested in knowing your position on two issues:
    1) LGBT rights – I am a gay male, but I am not for gay marriage. If they say marriage is between a man and a woman- fine. They can have it. Each person should do what they wish to do, but I am not an active proponent. Just wanted to know if your organization is gay-friendly.
    2) 9/11 truth movement. I know you defended Alex Jones, one of the movement’s most prominent proponents. Is there a leaning in your group for the truth?
Thank you for what you do.

Why don’t I see replies from the local organization? I see lots of one-way posts seeking information, contacts and meetings. Collectively, we want to be active but the Maryland Chapter appears to be unresponsive.

I think suspension is way too harsh for a simple agency policy violation. I have see USMC hats and stickers on display in police vehicles in Marlyand and all these are also policy violations, but no one is SUSPENDED! As a former police officer I agree that these items should NOT be placed in or on police vehicles but suspension? Just another case of overreasction.

From the lack of response and the fact that the Maryland chair person’s phone number is no longer his phone number it sounds like someone needs to step up in Maryland… that someone might just be me… we need a voice we need leadership and we need to be coordinated just like the enemy is…

    Two things-
    1) Sounds like Maryland needs a volunteer to step up and be the coordinator.
    2) Must one be or have been mil/leo/first responder, to join Oathkeepers? What are the qualifications for an associate member?
